Example 1 – Chris Moyles Show
The Chris Moyles show is aired on Radio 1 97.1 fm every morning from 6.30 am till 10 am. Its target audience is for pretty much everyone, but appeals mostly to people between the ages of 12 and 30. When the jingle initially starts at the beginning of the show it starts almost like a fairy tale would, that is because it is the breakfast show and many people are still in a dreamy sense, it also tells the audience that this show isn’t completely serious and has a large amount of comedy involved. It then plays a small archived clip from the popular television show of ‘This Morning’ this is obviously because something funny happened in the clip, this allows the beginning of a joke to start, a joke that will be developed further throughout the show. After this the main jingle begins, which has a voice singing all the information to the listener. It talks about: the day of the week (Friday in this case), archive clip of a celebrity (Keith Chegwin), declares that is a cheesy song (comedy), says a lot the radio station and then the backing track stays on and Chris Moyles introduces his colleges and then the guests on the show. This jingle is about 4 minutes long which is a lot longer than most normal jingles, but I in fact think it is very effective because not only does it give you all the information you need, it also is rather entertaining. The jingle itself is almost like a cheesy musical.
